Number 10 – Honduran White Bat
Honduran White Bats are mostly found in the rainforests of Honduras, Costa Rica and in some parts of Panama and Nicaragua. The bats are also known as Caribbean white tent-making bats. These tiny white bats are considered one of the cutest animals.
The vegetarian little bats come in white color, which is rare in the bat species, and it also works as a camouflage in the forest. Their noses and ears come in bright yellow and orange colors. The size varies from 4 to 6 cm and weighs around 5 to 7 grams with a life span of 15 to 20 years. One of the rare species of bats without a tail is this one.
The heliconia plants that grow in rainforests are home to them. These bats cause the heliconia leaves to collapse and turn them into V-shaped “tents” that may house one or more bats. They are shielded by the leaf tents from the sun and rain.
